Milton Pikarsky Memorial Award
Charley V. Wootan Memorial Award
Given annually to four graduate students in Transportation for the two best PhD Dissertations, MS Theses and MS/ME Reports.
Cash Awards are:
PhD Dissertation $2,000
MS Thesis $1,500
MS/ME Reports/Papers $1,500
In order to be considered for the awards the following should be submitted by the nominating faculty mentor/advisor to ARTBA in electronic (pdf file only) or hard copy to the address given below:
- A copy of the full dissertation/thesis/report.
- A completed nomination form
- Note: The dissertation/thesis/report/paper must have been completed and accepted during the 2008- 2009 academic year.
Nomination forms should indicate preference for consideration in one of three categories:
- Policy and Planning PhD Dissertation or MS Thesis (Wootan Award),
- Science and Technology PhD Dissertation or MS Thesis (Pikarsky Award).
- MS/ME Reports in either the Policy and Planning or Science and Technology category.
A faculty committee from the membership of the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) will review submissions and winners will be recognized at the CUTC Awards Banquet held on Saturday, 01/ 9/10, immediately preceding the 89th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board, 01/10/09 - 01/14/10.

Neville A. Parker Award
The Neville A. Parker Awards are presented annually for the two best non-thesis papers/projects in transportation submitted for the M.S. degree in lieu of a M.S. thesis. The following guidelines apply:
- Any transportation student at a CUTC member university that allows masters degree students the option of taking additional course work and writing a non-thesis paper/report/project in lieu of a M.S. thesis can be nominated for the award.
- Awards will be made for two categories – Policy & Planning, and Science & Technology.
- The faculty advisor/mentor must submit an unbound or electronic pdf copy of the student project/report/paper along with a Nomination Form indicating category preference.
- Student must have a GPA of 3.5 or better.
- There is no limit to the number of nominees that may be submitted by each CUTC university.
- The project/report/paper must have been completed during the academic year of the award and must be certified as being the work of the student in partial fulfillment of the degree.
The winners will be recognized at the CUTC Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board in January in Washington, DC. A cash prize in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded to the winner in each category.
